What’s different about health insurance in Indiana.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Indiana FAQ- Indiana uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
- Five insurers sell 2026 Marketplace plans here: Anthem, CareSource, Cigna, Ambetter from MHS and UnitedHealthcare. CareSource and Cigna are leaving the Marketplace for 2027, and AmeriHealth Caritas is joining in 7 counties.
- The extra federal subsidies expired after 2025, so households earning more than 400% of the poverty level get no premium tax credit in 2026.
- The state approved an average 27.2% increase in Marketplace rates for 2026 and an average 17.5% increase for 2027.
- The Healthy Indiana Plan (Medicaid) covers low-income adults 19 to 64, but work requirements start January 1, 2027.
- Indiana has no active state continuation law for small employers, and state law allows short-term plans of up to 364 days, renewable to 36 months.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.
