Illinois plans we compare
What’s different about health insurance in Illinois.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Illinois FAQ- Illinois now runs its own Marketplace, Get Covered Illinois, so you no longer enroll through HealthCare.gov.
- Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
- Cigna and Molina leave the Illinois Marketplace after 2026; five insurers remain for 2027.
- Short-term health plans are banned in Illinois as of January 1, 2025.
- Illinois continuation lets you keep an insured group plan for 12 months, and a spouse 55 or older can keep it until Medicare.
- Illinois expanded Medicaid, so adults with income up to about 138% of the poverty level can qualify year-round.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.
