Missouri plans we compare
What’s different about health insurance in Missouri.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Missouri FAQ- Missouri uses the federal Marketplace; open enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
- Extra federal subsidies ended after 2025, so households above 400% of the poverty level get no premium tax credit for 2026.
- MO HealthNet covers adults up to 138% of the poverty level, with work or activity rules starting January 1, 2027.
- Small-employer workers get COBRA-style continuation under Missouri law, for up to 18 months.
- Short-term plans can last up to 36 months with renewals here, but they can deny or exclude health conditions.
- Every county has at least two Marketplace insurers for 2026, and most have four or more.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.

No. Missouri uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. Premium tax credits, enrollment dates and special enrollment rules follow the federal system.
Missouri does not have its own coverage mandate or state tax penalty. Going without coverage still leaves you exposed to large medical bills, and you generally can only sign up for a Marketplace plan during open enrollment or after a qualifying life event.
