Mississippi plans we compare
What’s different about health insurance in Mississippi.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Mississippi FAQ- Mississippi uses the federal Marketplace. Open enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027, and you need to pick by December 15 for a January 1 start.
- The enhanced federal tax credits ended after 2025, and the average Mississippi enrollee's net premium rose from $41 to $131 a month in 2026.
- Mississippi has not expanded Medicaid, so adults without minor children generally cannot get Medicaid, and those below the poverty line cannot get Marketplace subsidies either.
- Five insurers sold Marketplace plans for 2026. Cigna is leaving at the end of 2026, so its members must pick a new plan for 2027, and a licensed agent can confirm which insurers sell in your county for 2027.
- State continuation law lets people on small employers' insured plans keep coverage for up to 12 months.
- Short-term plans are sold in Mississippi with terms up to 12 months, renewable up to 36 months, but they are not ACA coverage.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.

No. Mississippi uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. A 2024 state law allows a state-run exchange, but one has not been set up.
Open enrollment runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Pick a plan by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. If you enroll between December 16 and January 15, coverage starts February 1.
The enhanced federal tax credits expired after 2025, so most people now get less help, and full-price premiums also rose sharply. The average Mississippi enrollee's premium after subsidies went from $41 a month in 2025 to $131 in 2026.
