Tennessee plans we compare
What’s different about health insurance in Tennessee.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Tennessee FAQ- Tennessee uses HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027, and you must enroll by December 15 for a January 1 start.
- Enhanced federal tax credits expired after 2025, so households above 400% of the poverty level get no premium help in 2026.
- Tennessee has not expanded Medicaid. Most adults without children cannot get TennCare at any income, and those under the poverty line also miss out on marketplace credits.
- Six insurers sell 2026 marketplace plans, but Cigna is leaving after 2026, leaving five for 2027.
- Tennessee continuation lets small-employer workers keep group coverage for about 3 extra months, far shorter than COBRA.
- Farm Bureau Health Plans and longer short-term plans are sold here, but they can screen you for health conditions.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.

Yes, if your household income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. The enhanced credits that removed the upper income limit expired after 2025, so above 400% you pay full price. Tennessee does not add its own state subsidy.
