Michigan plans we compare
What’s different about health insurance in Michigan.
Every state runs its individual market a little differently. These are the rules that matter most if you buy your own coverage here.
Read the Michigan FAQ- Michigan uses the federal Marketplace. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027, and you must enroll by December 15 for a January 1 start.
- The extra federal premium help ended after 2025, so households above 400% of the poverty level get no premium tax credit for 2026.
- Seven insurers sell 2026 Marketplace plans in Michigan; Molina and HAP CareSource left after 2025.
- Approved 2026 individual-market rates rose 20.2% on average before subsidies.
- Michigan has no mini-COBRA law, so workers at employers with fewer than 20 employees cannot stay on the group plan under state law.
- The Healthy Michigan Plan covers adults up to 138% of the poverty level, with work requirements starting January 1, 2027.
However you got here, there’s a better plan than the first one you were offered.

No. Michigan uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. Michigan's insurance department also runs the Health Insurance Consumer Assistance Program (HICAP) at 877-999-6442 for questions and complaints.
Two things happened at once. Insurers raised individual rates 20.2% on average for 2026, and the extra federal premium help that started in 2021 expired at the end of 2025, so many people now get a smaller tax credit or none at all.
